How to compensate for the negative impact of the educational gap when applying for a study permit?
Sometimes, after a few years ( usually more than five years ) have passed since obtaining the last degree, a person intends to continue studying in Canada. This period of time is called the educational gap , which sometimes causes problems in obtaining an educational permit. In fact, the officer reviewing the study permit application must be satisfied that the applicant’s purpose is indeed to study in Canada. Many times, this confidence can be created by providing sufficient documents and explanations.
The following methods, which are based solely on professional experience, can be effective in obtaining a study permit.
1- Providing a language certificate with an excellent score: Having a good language score is effective. A high grade means a grade equivalent to CLB 8. This level is almost equal to a score of 6.5 to 7 in the IELTS test.
2- Adequate financial ability: the minimum balance for obtaining a study permit according to the Canadian Immigration Department is equal to one year’s tuition plus living expenses for one year. Therefore, a reasonable bank balance and slightly higher than this amount can be a good idea. Of course, too much inventory can be problematic.
3- GRE and GMAT test: in some fields of engineering or business management, in addition to the language test, the applicant needs to get a good score in other tests that include language skills and other skills (such as mathematical intelligence or logical reasoning).
4- Letter of motivation: preparing the letter of motivation ( purpose of study ) includes explaining the reasons for studying and drawing the future work according to the study program, one of the very important factors in obtaining admission to study. In addition to that, along with other necessary documents for the study permit, a study plan should also be submitted to the immigration office. In the study program, the purpose of study, the choice of study field, the university of study, the choice of Canada as the country of study, and the relationship between study and previous or future employment should be explained.
5- Recommendation letter by professors: Providing recommendation letters by professors during studies and sometimes by the boss/manager at work is very effective for obtaining academic admission.
6- Resume: Resume includes your educational, work and professional records. The logical connection between education and work, and more importantly, job continuity, can indicate your motivation to continue your education. A good diary can clarify the relationship between education and future career.
7- Articles and research projects: publishing scientific articles and doing or participating in research projects is effective and shows your scientific ability.
Usually, an immigration lawyer with a brilliant academic record and knowledge of the expectations of universities in Canada and the immigration office can dramatically determine the success of the study permit application.
