Demographic composition of immigrants in Canada
In 2020, 74,000 new immigrants entered Canada before immigration was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Out of this number, 24% were of Indian origin, which accounted for the highest percentage like last year. One of the main reasons for the superiority of Indians is their mastery of the English language, having university degrees and professional work experience. On the other hand, many Indians have American H1-B visas, and they leave for Canada due to the impossibility of obtaining permanent residence.
Similar to 2019, in 2020 until March, the ten countries that had the most immigrants in Canada are:
- India
- china
- Philippines
- America
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Syria
- France
- Iran
- Brazil
Immigrants from China make up 10%, from the Philippines, 8%, and from America and Nigeria, 5% of the immigrant population in Canada.
