What is Red Seal Professional Certification?
In technical-professional jobs or trades (such as electricians or cooking) in Canada, a set of standards has been developed that people need to obtain a certificate for employment in any of these jobs. In each province, the authority for training and awarding certificates for each job operates independently. Therefore, a person who has a license to work in a profession in one province, for example, an electrician’s license in Ontario, is not necessarily allowed to do such work in British Columbia.
The Red Seal certificate is a certificate related to technical-professional occupations that has interprovincial validity. In terms of standards , Red Seal is at a higher level than provincial certificates, and for example, a plumber or building electrician who has received a Red Seal certificate can work in that profession in different provinces. Obtaining the Red Seal certificate also increases the chances of employment.
